School Gardens

Salem-Keizer Education Foundation (SKEF) planted its first Learning Gardens in three schools in 2010. Now we have grown to 9 school gardens that produce thousands of pounds of fresh food and teach students about healthy lifestyles, nutrition, local specialty crop agriculture, and careers in agriculture. Our programs are proven to be successful at increasing children’s nutrition knowledge and consumption of local produce by expanding access at schools.

We know this nationally recognized program increases students’ knowledge of Oregon’s crops and their consumption at school. Now we want to expand the program to change behaviors and habits at home and beyond.
