Our goals are to increase youth exposure to athletics through an organized environment that will have a positive impact on youth's lives physically, mentally and socially. To accomplish this, Awesome Youth Sports provides a comprehensive menu of sports related activities that address recreation, competition, health/fitness, social development and community involvement. Programs include but are not limited to K-8th Soccer, Basketball, Flag Football, Volleyball, Wrestling and Track & Field leagues/camps/clinics/special events; and more!

The Awesome Youth Sports Basketball Referee will work in partnership with team members, volunteers, youth and parents to coordinate and implement game activities. The referee will work to maintain a positive environment for everyone involved by: ensuring gyms are open, games start on time, keeping players safe, interacting with the volunteers/families, etc.


  • Manage basketball operations of the basketball program
  • Assure safety and supervision of youth at all times
  • Maintain high visibility at the site by updating Youth Sports Director of challenges and success of program, promoting special events, interacting regularly with players, parents, and volunteers
  • Develop positive relationships and maintain high level communication system with volunteers, parents, players and community partners
  • Assure gyms and other shared city/school space is well maintained
  • Maintain program supplies (balls, whistles, cones, stop watches, etc.) and report to Youth Sports Director of equipment needs in a timely manner
  • Be on time for set up and break down of gyms
  • Display integrity at all times
  • Ability to teach basic skills of basketball to youth in a positive manner
  • Understand, abide by and enforce SKEF policies and procedures
  • Interpret the SKEF mission, philosophy and character values in the execution of duties

Communications -- Youth Basketball Referees must maintain an effective communication system with city/school personnel, SKEF team members, parents, volunteers, prospective and participating athletes so clinic logistics can be governed effectively.


  • Act as a liaison between Awesome Youth Sports & program participants by responding courteously to parent concerns and/or complaints.
  • Immediately notify Youth Sports Director of parent concerns/complaints.
  • Verbally communicate to program audience about SKEF and the programs that are offered by providing direct verbal announcements at the gyms and distributing literature to the families during program activity

Ideal person should also be able to:

  • Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences
  • Demonstrate a willingness to grow and learn in the youth sports field
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with athletes, staff, volunteers, parents and community partners
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage conflicts
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned and/or specified by the designee


  • Hourly/DOE beginning at $10/hr
