NEW: iTronDance & Coding Workshop

August 5th-9th  |  9:00am – 12:00pm

Learn how to make your own TronDance costume & program code to make the costume lights dance to a hip hop beat. Students will also have a short snack break during the workshop.

STEM
Kids are challenged to not only think but also design, discover, and invent their way through a number of projects.

From the basics of plant care to preparing a meal using fresh fruits and veggies, kids engage a variety of senses and skills.

Make It Machines

Take the basics of simple machines to the next level and tinker away as you develop your machine-making skills. Campers will have fun making simple machines out of found objects.

Backyard Chemistry

Campers will spend the week testing chemical reactions through fun experiments with ordinary household products such as cornstarch, soda, and borax.

Water World

Splish! Splash! Discover the amazing world of water and its scientific properties with hands-on activities including measuring water balloon launches and building a DIY dam.

Edible Chemistry

Experiments…good enough to eat! Campers will discover dozens of thoroughly tested, edible experiments and recipes, aimed at developing understanding of various scientific processes. They’ll make butter, cheese, yogurt, pickles, and even edible glass!

Paleontology

Get ready for a wild week of adventure into the age of giant reptiles! Campers will investigate the extinction of dinosaurs and learn about how to collect fossils and what they tell us about the distant past.

Hands-On Science

Understand the concepts behind molecules, polymers, air pressure, Newton’s 3 laws of motion, and more, through practical activities that make learning science exciting!

Beginning Coding

Campers will learn the basics of coding by working with fun online programs and engaging in unplugged activities that enhance their programming. They will learn to program loops and events, and come up with their own custom game or story to share via code.

Young Inventors

Be the next Thomas Edison! Learn the fundamentals of science and engineering by using salvaged materials, motors, simple machines, and more, to create a variety of functioning inventions.

WeDo Lego Robotics

Participate in an introduction to robotics by using the LEGO ® Education WeDo Construction Set. Campers will use simple machines to explore basic engineering concepts, and throughout the week, they’ll complete Lego challenges that test their knowledge.

Sphero Lab

Campers will get to use the SPRK Lightning Lab app to control the amazing SPRK+ robot in small groups. They will get to drive, command, and program a spherical robot and watch as it moves, dances, and spins across the floor.

Fun with Slime

Campers will have tons of fun making slime of all kinds. Experiment with and investigate interesting ingredients to create wild concoctions and slimy creations.

Mystery Science

Why can’t airplanes fly to space? Why are polar bears white? Each day, campers will get the opportunity to solve one of the wonderful mysteries of science.

ARTS/CRAFTS

Clay Play

Knead, poke, squish, and roll. Kids love clay, and in this class, they will explore various concepts of design, such as texture, color, and pattern, by molding clay into animal shapes, making pinch pots, and more.

Paint Fun

Campers will embrace their inner Vincent van Gogh or Monet and use many different types of paint, from watercolor to acrylic, to create beautiful landscapes, portraits, and more.

Arts Attack

Express your creativity! Campers will use traditional and mixed media materials to develop artistic skills and present their individuality through art mediums such as printmaking, drawing, and collage.

Glow in the Dark Art

Lights out! Campers will come up with beautiful artistic creations that glow-in-the dark. Using a black light, fluorescent paints, neon glitter, and more, they’ll be able to see the magic they’ve made when the lights go out.

Stitch Wiz

Campers will learn to weave and stitch with simple materials on a handmade loom. They’ll use colorful yarn for fun, adorable creations!

MUSIC/CULTURE

Kinetic Kids

Aspiring musicians wanted! Campers will use music and movement to work on coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and spatial awareness, and gain exposure to different styles of music and dance from around the world.

Explore Japan (Grant site only)

Konnichiwa (Good day)! Explore the language and culture of Japan through hands-on lessons taught by students and staff from Willamette University and Tokyo International University of America.

Peace Village

Campers will learn how to work well with others, honor diversity, and demonstrate a positive attitude toward life and nature. They will engage in activities that include: the basics of yoga, teambuilding games, and observation of the natural environment around them.

Passport Around the World

Get your passport stamped! Campers will create their own
passports and ‘take a trip’ around the world to learn about the animals, people, culture, food, and landscapes of some of our planet’s most fascinating places.

GARDENING/FOODS

Green Sprouts

Young gardeners will learn the basics of plant care, growing fruits and vegetables, seasonal changes, and the science of gardening. They will explore the theme of sustainability by looking at plants and foods that grow regionally in the Pacific Northwest.

Breakfast Club

As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Campers will get the opportunity to become aspiring breakfast chefs and cook traditional breakfast fare, as well as put their own spin on the classic morning meal.

Pizza From the Ground Up

Buon Appetito! Aspiring chefs will learn the secret to the perfect pizza by making pizza from the ground up. We’ll start with the dough and make each element by scratch until the final day when we will put them all together making a pizza from the ground up.

Berries Galore

Get ready for a berry bonanza! Summer is the best time for berries of all kinds. Campers will make all kinds of sweet treats using locally picked fruit—smoothies, crumbles…you name it, they’ll make it!

Garden Fun

A summer introduction to the garden and how things grow. Young gardeners will learn the basics of plant care, gardening and will investigate science and nature through hands-on exploration based activities.

SPORTS

Basketball

Get ready for a week of basketball skill development. Campers will
focus on improving their abilities in passing, hand dribbling, defense, shooting, and rebounding. They will also learn important concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Gym Games

Game on! Campers will cooperate in group play and get their hearts pumping by engaging in active games such as capture the flag, robot commander, and shipwreck.

Soccer

Campers will focus on specific skills, including: passing, controlling the ball, shooting, and foot dribbling; and learn important concepts of teamwork, different positions, and game play.

Fitness Fun

Time to burn some energy and have some fun! Campers will engage in lots of running, jumping, moving, and stretching in an open gym environment. They will learn how to work as a team to complete a variety of physical obstacle courses and small group competitions.

All Sports

Basketball, flag football, kick ball, and a variety of other sports will be highlighted throughout the week to encourage basic skill development and a passion for fitness.

GAMES / EXPLORATORY

Animal Architects

Become a ‘wildlife biologist’ and learn how to study and build the many different habitats of the world’s most interesting animals. Campers will recreate nests, beaver dams, etc. out of found materials.

Chess

Checkmate! Whether you’re a beginner or a master, spend the week learning new moves and strategies that will make you an even more competitive player. Campers will challenge one another to chess tournaments and game play.

Happy Campers

Summer is the perfect time to learn how to be a responsible camper in the great outdoors. Spend the week practicing safety skills in a variety of outdoor adventure scenarios, playing camp games, and building shelters.

Rubik’s Challenge

Campers will discover the science behind the mysterious Rubik’s cube, and will learn drills and skills to solve these mind-bending, hands-on puzzles.

Safety Superheroes

Better safe than sorry! Campers will learn about and practice the basics of first aid, how to recognize stranger danger, how to be a safe pedestrian, and much more.

Rocketeers

Build and launch a variety of air and water rockets using a combination of models and practical tests. Campers will learn the basics of aerodynamics, calculate altitude, and measure launch distances.

Sphero Lab

Campers will use the SPRK Lightning Lab app to control the amazing SPRK+ robot. They will work in teams to program Sphero to follow a list of commands, run mazes and obstacle courses, and even use creative coding to make light paintings using a long-exposure photography app.

Edible Chemistry

Learn robotics and programming with LEGO Mindstorm NXT. Campers will be able to turn LEGO bricks, gears, and motors into a programmable robot that can be taught to accomplish several tasks.

Slime-a-palooza

Campers will have tons of fun making slime of all kinds. Experiment with and investigate interesting ingredients to create wild concoctions and slimy creations.

Lights out! Campers will come up with beautiful artistic creations that glow-in-the dark. Using a black light, fluorescent paints, neon glitter, and more, they’ll be able to see the magic they’ve made when the lights go out!

Creative Canvas

Aspiring artists will use mixed media and acrylic paint to make canvases come to life with 3D embellishments. Campers will design imaginative paintings and decorate their canvases with buttons, cardboard creations, and more!

Be Prepared

Better safe than sorry! Campers will learn about The Pillowcase Project that teaches students about personal and family preparedness, local hazards, and basic coping skills.
