SKEF Spring Basketball & Soccer Leagues
March 19, 2020 Update:
Greetings SKEF Spring Basketball & Soccer Families:
Thank you all for your patience and support with the organization of our spring sports sessions. Our commitment to keeping your student athletes actively engaged in healthy activities remains the focus. We have the utmost confidence that the season will proceed ahead.
Our number one priority is the safety of our community and your families. In collaboration with the Oregon Health Authority and Salem-Keizer School District, spring seasons will experience delays in the start of practices and games. Currently with the advised late April date we will move the season start to early May with the vision of ending late June. This will allow the teams to have 1-2 weeks of practice prior to the first game and play the 7 game schedule. With guidance from our mentioned community partners these dates are subject change based on what we learn in the coming weeks. SKEF will continue to send out communications to program participant families with any updates.
The efforts from everyone are greatly appreciated with helping SKEF model this mentality for the kids. Collectively all players, parents, and administration can make this season a success!
March 18, 2020 Update:
We have been closely monitoring the recommendations of leading health organizations in response to the developing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
As community supporters, we believe our primary role and responsibility is to ensure community members are cared for during this time of uncertainty. We continue to work closely with our partners at Salem-Keizer Public Schools to ensure the safety of our student populations and their families.
May 2nd, the date of the 38th annual Awesome 3000, is fast approaching. There are still many unknowns regarding the virus and the precautionary measures that may still need to be taken in the coming weeks. Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to postpone the 2020 Awesome 3000 until Saturday, August 1. The event will still be held at McCulloch Stadium and will be a great celebration of community. We look forward to having you join us then.
A big thank you to Willamette University and all our sponsors. We could not have rescheduled without their support and flexibility. If you have already registered your student(s) for the event, your registration will be carried forward to the new date. Should you have questions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SKEF Spring Soccer & Basketball
March 13, 2020 Update:
Hi Spring Soccer K-6th Families:
Safety of our students and families is of utmost importance to SKEF in our services and programs. We are paying close attention to the recommendations and decisions from the Oregon Health Authority and the School District with regard to the coronavirus.
We are moving forward with final rosters, assigning coaches, ordering jerseys, etc. We are in discussions at SKEF to determine what the beginning of the spring sessions will look like. With the unknowns we do not want to speculate what that will be. When more details are learned a communication will go out next week if there will be any delays or changes. Please do not worry about the refund deadline as that will be adjusted based on what we learn going forward.
Thanks to all SKEF families for your patience and understanding. SKEF will send out a new communication with any updates early to middle of next week.
March 9 2020 Update:
We are closely following news and updates related to COVID-19 and how this virus may affect those attending and participating in the Awesome 3000. Should we need to alter our plans to hold this event on May 2, be assured the event will take place on a future date this year.
March 9 2020 Update:
We are monitoring the situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 cases in the state. The Oregon Health Authority reports recent cases in people without high-risk exposure, which means there has been some spread in communities in Oregon. Community-wide measures like hand hygiene and staying home when ill are essential to decrease further community spread.SKEF Enrichment Academy will take our cue from the Salem-Keizer School District, if and when any extended school closure measures are enacted. In the meantime, we encourage the liberal use of handwashing with soap, the use of hand sanitizer and for students who are ill, for them to remain at home until they have no symptoms. We will be sending any student home who displays symptoms of illness, as outlined in our parent handbook.
We will continue to work with the Salem-Keizer School District, The Oregon Department of Education and The Oregon Health Authority to keep you informed and updated. If you have any questions about how our programs are handling this response,
please call me at 503-364-2933.
March 12, 2020 SKEF Sports Update:
Safety of our students and families is of utmost importance to us in our services and programs. We are paying close attention to the recommendations and decisions from the Oregon Health Authority and the School District with regard to the coronavirus. We have been asked to do what we can to prevent the community spread. For this reason, we are taking a precautionary step of suspending this final week of the SKEF Winter Sports season. We want to thank our athletes, volunteer coaches, game officials, and parents for a great season!
